It’s no news that almost the entire world is now fighting the Covid-19 pandemic and that this affects all aspects of society, from economy to mental health, relationships and self-motivation. Still, everyone is fighting these difficulties as best as possible and today, we want to share with you how the team behind QwertyBit is coping with it all. Hopefully, it will give you some hope and motivation for your own team and business.
It started gradually
On the 9th of March, Monday morning, just when getting ready to go to the office, the news was announcing a possible new Covid-19 patient in the Bucharest Polytechnic University, a school where some friends of our business are still enrolled. The decision felt natural: we decided to switch to work from home, effective immediately! As everyone was familiar with the situation, nobody questioned this measure, because we all knew it was for the best of our and our clients’ health.
We tested our systems
As we’re a software developer company, all our work happens online, so the decision to work from home didn’t come as a shock. Since we’re based in two countries, the team is used to working remotely. We are 9 people, but only four of us, who are in charge with coding per-se, are permanently at the office, therefore around 50% of the team was already working from different spots. We had all tools needed to effectively work from home, as we’ve been doing it since 2017 when we started the business.
Still, this doesn’t mean that everything went perfectly. Our team is just half of the business as the other half is made of our clients. Due to having a diverse portfolio of industries we work with, not all our clients were set for an entirely remote collaboration yet. But, we wanted this change to be adopted by everyone, in a smooth and successful way, so we assisted the ones who were not yet ready to go full on digital.
We’re closer than ever before
How it all worked? After 21 days of work from home, our business is actually healthier than ever. This crisis enabled our team to have a more synchronised schedule and to keep in touch better. Now all colleagues, regardless of their department, share their ideas and resources with everyone, as this helps both the team and each member individually.
Even though we work more now, we also make time to socialise within the team, as we have special channels designated to connecting for work or just to keep in touch. Interesting articles, gruesome fake news or just having an afterwork relaxed meeting on Zoom, we’re no strangers to any. This way, we stay connected and all members can feel like they are not alone, as they are part of a keen team.
And we have a lot coming up
We have more time to work, so we work more. That’s how we learned that our expertise is valuable not just for business growth, but also for community harmony and genuine information spread.
The crisis has empowered us and many other businesses to use our knowledge to help overcome these hard times by assuring a good flow for verified information and communication. We connected with other companies in our sector through the Romanian IT Board of trustees and The national council of Romanian SMEs, and together, we created a guide on how to keep your business alive during the pandemic. Moreover, we joined our forces and developed a remote support IT service where anyone can get their questions on software and digitalisation answered, absolutely free of charge. On our website, you can also find a special page dedicated to the urgency to digitalise your business and how to do so. More information on how to do business in times of the pandemic can be found here.
To state the importance of staying at home in order to help limit the virus to spread and also to cherish the people who adopted this measure, we created a website that enables visitors to create a badge of their #stayhome manifesto. We advise everyone to stay in and consume only verified information, and to emphasise that, we’re currently working on an algorithm that connects the existing data and estimates how the virus will spread in Romania.
The show must go on, we trust, so our team is here, working every day to help businesses thrive in these times of uncertainty and unbalance. We’re constantly trying to come up with new solutions to make this situation more bearable for everyone, so very soon, we’ll be releasing a new feature on our website. This one shall help our clients estimate the cost and complexity of their needs, so that they can be more confident when talking prices.
We believe that with good software, smooth communication, valuable services and most importantly, a strong dedicated team behind, any business can survive and succeed in front of this milestone!
